We wanted to get out of social media - digital meeting place, real mountain experiences
When women network in the mountain world, it often results in more than just a rope team - real friendships, mutual support and plenty of inspiration. The "Munich Mountain Girls", MMG for short, are the best proof of this. Since they were founded, they have united women with a shared passion for the mountains - without any pressure to perform, but with a lot of heart and community spirit. Over 30,000 women are now part of the movement. And this community has recently found a new digital home: the Female Mountain Club online forum with the support of coapp.
"We wanted to get out of social media and into a community platform that belongs to us," says Christine Prechsl, founder of Munich Mountain Girls. "The forum is the place where you can find new mountain friends - whether for your first climbing tour together, the next summit or just a coffee."
Out of the Facebook cosmos, into your own forum
What began as a Facebook group has long since become a movement. The Munich Mountain Girls organize workshops, tours with mountain guides, digital courses and real encounters. However, the desire for a space of their own - detached from algorithms and news feeds - gave rise to the idea of a forum. Together with coapp, the forum became an app that now functions independently of social media.
"Many of our users want to find like-minded friends and exchange ideas - without the noise and rules of social media," says Christine. "In the forum, they can post their tours, ask questions or share flea market offers. It's about real exchange - for all levels, all ages, all sports. Promoting friendships is our primary mission."

In coapp, the Munich Mountain Girls have found a partner that not only provides them with technical support, but also responds to their community needs. "A big thank you to coapp - for the countless optimizations, the quick implementation of features and the open ear for our wishes," writes Christine on LinkedIn. "We feel well looked after all round."
The highlight for the girls: the forum is not only accessible on the computer, but also as an app and therefore easily available on the smartphone while hiking - even under their own name. "What else would we like? That you can search for Munich Mountain Girls in the App Store - it's currently still running under coapp. That would be more intuitive for our users," explains Christine. Small things like pinning posts or filtering duplicate content are also on the wish list. But: "Many of the Features we like are based on what we know from Facebook - just on our own platform."
Digital meeting place, real experiences
The forum is now much more than just a platform. It is a space where tour plans are made spontaneously, new friendships are forged, tips are exchanged and events are planned. For many women, the forum is the first step into a new mountain community - and perhaps even the beginning of a lifelong friendship.
"It's so nice to see women meeting for the first time via the forum - and then going on tour together a few weeks later," says Christine. "That's exactly why we set up the forum."
